Grammy winner Chappell Roan appeared as the latest guest on the Call Her Daddy podcast with Alex Cooper, where she opened up about her professional and personal life, sharing some shocking statements
Chappell Roan sat down for a tell-all interview with Call Her Daddy podcast host Alex Cooper. The queer pop artist, known for her rebellious and risqué aura, had a lot to say, spilling all about her new "serious" relationship, her relationship with fame and even teased new music.
Her guest appearance comes after she released her country-tinged single, titled ‘The Giver' on March 14th. It was her first music release since her successful single from last year, Good Luck, Babe!
The 26-year-old, real name Kayleigh Rose Amstutz, is known for her hit singles Good Luck, Babe!, Pink Pony Club, and Red Supernova. She has been making music since she was 17. Her debut album, The Rise And Fall Of A Midwest Princess, led her fame to skyrocket, as well as her Coachella set last year.
From shocking confessions about her personal life and her journey through fame to stories about her past relationships, Chappell remained candid about everything. Here, we’ve come up with a list of the wildest revelations her Call Her Daddy interview.
Chappell is in a ‘serious relationship’
Chappell Roan is off the market, telling host Alex Cooper that she's “very in love” and “in a serious relationship” for the past six months. Although she didn’t give out too many details, the singer said that she and her girlfriend had dated in the past, before Chappell's rise to fame.
Chappell revealed that the pair had been set up through a mutual friend, but knew of each other before. Despite being in love, the Good Luck Babe! singer confessed that she's "pro single", saying: "Everyone should be single, I'm serious. Be single. Stop dating. Be single. Have a great time alone. Find out for yourself if you can one hundred per cent be okay alone before you date."
Chappell confirmed that she had a "great time" during her single years, and hadn't dated anyone since becoming famous. "I haven’t dated someone since this all really, really blew up. I’m dating the same person that I was dating before I like blew up, so I’m not sure how I would date now," she said.
She thinks fans are 'scared' to approach her
During her conversation with Alex, Chappell said that her past “predatory behaviour” might be the reason why her fans are scared to approach her. She told Alex that she has "made a big enough deal about not talking to me that people do not talk to me.”
Last year, she made headlines after she went on a social media rant about being targeted by "weird" fans who had stalked her family and bullied her online. At the time, Chappell said: "If you saw a random woman on the street, would you yell at her from your car window? Would you harass her in public? Would you stalk her family? Would you follow her around? Would you try to dissect her life and bully her online?"
Chappell auditioned for The Voice
Chappell Roan revealed that she auditioned for talent show, The Voice, telling Call Her Daddy listeners that she sung Break Free by Ariana Grande. She didn't make it through auditions, but didn't seem too cut up about it.
"I didn't make it on the show, obviously. Thank God," she told Alex. There isn't a lot of information about her audition for The Voice, but she did speak about it in 2022 during an interview with Illustrate Magazine. The singer also revealed to have auditioned for America's Got Talent.
'People think I'm educated because I'm gay'
Despite wanting to be “more politically correct” and “way more knowledgeable", Chappell claimed that people expect her to be "educated" because she’s gay. She told Alex: "I don’t know everything about every topic I have opinions on, like being gay. I try to know everything I can, but when I don’t answer a question correctly or I don’t acknowledge one community, it’s like, how can I do it all?”
She keeps it casual on days off
Known for her extravagant and colourful outfits, Chappell confessed that she stopped wearing “crazy” outfits to create a barrier between her public and private persona. She said: "I would go out in this insane drag make-up and all these thrifted '70s disco, always in f--king heels, just maximalist, and that was so amazing."
"(But) then there was no separation," she added. "I would be out as Kayleigh in that and then I would be on stage as that... I would look at myself in the mirror and be like, 'What's the difference between Chappell and (Kayleigh)?'"
Young Chappell wouldn’t ‘register’ her now
The singer said that her younger self wouldn’t “register” the person she has become. In the Call Her Daddy podcast, she told the host that her young self wouldn’t be able to recognise her and explained that when she was younger, she felt restricted.
“I don’t even know if my young self would be able to register that as a part of me. That’s how removed… I was so, so, so opposite of me now. It just wasn’t awaken," she said.
