Almost 20 years after its final episode aired, sitcom Malcolm In The Middle is set for an incredible TV comeback later this year.
The series, which ran from 2000 through 2006, portrayed the hi-jinks of a quirky family with Frankie Muniz starring as the eponymous brainy brother, Malcolm. Now, Disney+ is breathing new life into the show having commissioned a four-episode special that will see the majority of the original cast reunite.
During its original six-year tenure, the beloved comedy earned many accolades, accumulating seven Emmys, a Grammy and seven Golden Globes nominations.
Earlier in the week, Muniz, now 39, stirred up nostalgia among followers when he hopped onto X and hinted at his sentimental prep for reviving his role as Malcolm.
"Just started watching Malcolm in the Middle episode 1," he divulged. "Got 151 to catch up on before we start filming again in a few days! Can't wait to get back together with my old family."
Eager fans jumped in with excitement, one of whom declared: "Might be the best news I've heard all year so far."
Another was awestruck, writing: "Wait, is this true... Malcolm in the Middle is coming back? I know it's right from Frankie's mouth but is it really?"
Another chimed in with: "This was one of my favorite shows growing up. I'm so excited to hear y'all are making a reboot." A fourth X user said: "As the first middle child in my family, it was one of my favorites, hope the filming goes well!"
Whilst an enthusiastic fifth person couldn't contain their excitement, exclaiming: "Yay Frankie, you're such an awesome guy! I'm so glad you love your show as much as I do! Your character is literally the funniest person ever."
The reboot will also see the return of Bryan Cranston and Jane Kaczmarek as the Wilkerson parents Hal and Lois. Christopher Masterson and Justin Berfield are back too, reprising their roles as Malcolm's older brothers, Francis and Reese.
Joining the original cast are newcomers Anthony Timpano as Jamie, Malcolm's youngest brother who was just a baby in the original series and Vaughan Marie as Kelly, Malcolm's youngest sibling whose impending arrival was hinted at in the series finale with Lois holding a positive pregnancy test.
Keeley Karsten steps into the role of Malcolm's daughter Leah, whilst Kiana Madeira joins as his girlfriend. However, Erik Per Sullivan, who played Malcolm's younger brother Dewey, will be succeeded by actor Caleb Ellsworth-Clark.
Ayo Davis, president of Disney Branded Television, shared with Variety what viewers can anticipate from the new episodes: "Its hilarious and heartfelt portrayal of a lovably chaotic family resonated with audiences of all ages, and we're so excited to welcome the original cast back to bring that magic to life again.
"With Linwood Boomer and the creative team at the helm, these new episodes will have all the laughs, pranks, and mayhem fans loved - along with a few surprises that remind us why this show is so timeless."
