1923 airs on Paramount Plus and the Yellowstone prequel stars French actor Sebastian Roche as the abusive headmaster of the Catholic boarding school Teonna Rainwater (played by Aminah Nieves) escaped from.
His character, Father Renaud, has taken a turn as his vulnerabilities have started to show in his bid to track Teonna down.
Sebastian is a 60-year-old French-American actor known for his roles in Odyssey 5, General Hospital and The Vampire Diaries.
He was born in Paris to a Scottish mother and French father and between the ages of 12 and 18 he lived on a sailboat with his parents and brothers, travelling to the Mediterranean, Africa, South America, and the Caribbean.
The multi-lingual star attended the prestigious French National Academy of Dramatic Arts before moving to New York in 1992, and he is now an American citizen.

As for his personal life, he met American actress Vera Farmiga while co-starring with her in the Fox series Roar.
They eloped to the Bahamas after the series ended in 1998 but after seven years of marriage, they separated.
He went on to marry Korean Australian actress Alicia Hannah-Kim in France in 2014. She is known for playing antagonist Kim Da-Eun in the Netflix series, Cobra Kai.
She has also starred in Minx, Alone Together and Two and a Half Men.

While Sebastian is no stranger to playing villains, his role in 1923 has been his most brutal without a doubt.
In one scene in the first season, Father Renaud is seen killing a student at the North Dakota Boarding School for Native Americans.
He told Us Weekly of how the scenes made him incredibly emotional, adding: "There was a whole room full of Indigenous [and] Native American young women.
"Before the scene, I wanted to clear the air and talk about what we were about to do because we’re recreating [the] history that truly happened.
“I wanted to clear the air by kind of asking forgiveness before we did the scene. That really helped not only everyone [else] to ease the tension, but myself, because I suddenly felt unbelievably emotional in those scenes.”
“[It’s] so realistic that really, I got incredibly emotional and nervous.”
