United Nations International Day of Happiness (UNIDOHappiness) Founder Jayme Illien Calls For #Happiness For All Ten Billion Members of the Human Family By 2050. The January 2018 announcement follows six years after the 2012 UN launch of the global happiness movement at UN headquarters to define a new economic paradigm which "has as its goal the human happiness and wellbeing of all life on earth."

United Nations International Day of Happiness (UNIDOHappiness) founder Jayme Illien celebrated the 2018 new “Year of Global Happiness” with a global call to action to achieve happiness for all ten billion members of the global human family by 2050.

Illien’s bold and ambitious call to advance global happiness on behalf of all ten billion human beings projected to live on planet Earth by 2050, was launched at the American Economic Association annual conference, and the Economists for Peace and Security annual special dinner held January 6, 2018 celebrating world renowned economist James Galbraith, Chairman of Economists for Peace and Security from 1996-2016.

Honoring and hosting Galbraith were Dr. Jeffrey Sachs, Chair Global Happiness Council, World Happiness Report, Earth Institute of Columbia University, and United Nations Special Advisor to Secretary Generals Antonio Guterres, Ban Ki Moon, and Kofi Annan; Dr. Joseph Stiglitz, Chair of the OECD ‘Happiness Commission’ (originally appointed by former French President Nicolas Sarkozy), former Chief Economist World Bank, former Chair White House Council of Economic Advisors, former Chair of United Nations Commission on Reforms of the International Monetary and Financial System, Nobel Laureate, and EPS Trustee; Lawrence Summers, former US Treasury Secretary, former Chief Economist World Bank, former President Harvard University, and former White House Director National Economic Council for US President Barack Obama; Robert Reich former US Secretary of Labor who served in White House administrations of US Presidents Ford, Carter, and Clinton, and EPS Trustee; Yanis Varoufakis former Greek Minister of Finance; Luis Carlos Bresser-Pereira former Brazilian Minister of Finance, and Minister of Science and Technology; Jan Kregel former Chief Economist United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) and former Chief for Policy Analysis Financing for Development United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA); Aleksandr Nekipelov former Chairman of Board of Rosneft, Director of Moscow School of Economics, and Council of Science and Technology under Russian President Vladimir Putin; Mariana Mazzucato Scotland Council of Economic Advisors; and Richard Parker President of Americans for Democratic Action, among others.

It was just over six years ago that International Day of Happiness founder Jayme Illien conceptualized the idea for a new global holiday, and brought together a coalition of 193 countries, with the support of then United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki moon to pass UN resolution 66 281: The International Day Of Happiness.


UN resolution 66 281 establishes March 20 as the ”International Day of Happiness” and recognizes the “pursuit of happiness” as a fundamental human right and goal, the primacy of #happiness and #wellbeing as universal goals and aspirations in the lives of human beings around the world, and the paramount importance of prioritizing happiness for governments in shaping public policy objectives.


International Day of Happiness resolution UN 66 281 also  “invites all UN member states, organizations of the United Nations system, and other international and regional organizations, as well as civil society, to observe the International Day of Happiness in an appropriate manner, including through education and public awareness raising activities”.
